...with my cellphone.
I'm not really a constant texter/talker, but I usually use my phone daily. But lately, it seems like every time I turn around people are ALWAYS on their phones and it starting to make me think about how obsessively connected we are to gadgets and gizmos. Have you ever been out at a restaurant and two people are sitting together and both are texting or surfing the web on their phone? I see this ALL the time and it's so strange to me. I'd rather be talking to the person in front of me, but a lot of people go out and spend all their time on their phone (If this is you, no judgement, it's just an observation I've had!) I think we (as a society) are so engulfed in technology that we don't realize how it takes over and distracts us.
Personally, I've really been wanting to disconnect...so I turned my phone off for about two weeks and guess what? It felt GREAT! I still took it with me in case I had an emergency but I left it off and after a few days I didn't even think about it. Don't get me wrong though, I love technology and I really want a new neat-o cellphone soon, but I wanted to see how it would be to not have a phone for a while and it wasn't bad at all. It also made me appreciate that I have a phone and can afford to pay for it because a lot of people can't!
So the point of this whole post is I challenge YOU! (Yes you!) Pick one gadget (tv, phone, internet, whatever) that you *might* be a little too connected to and turn it OFF...whether it's for 3 days or 3 weeks...one day or one hour...disconnect from it and focus that energy on something new and non-techish. I think I'm going to try to go a week without the internet next. *gasp* that's going to be a hard one haha. If you try it, post about it and share your results...I'd love to see!
Sorry if this post is totally random, lol. I hope it doesn't offend any hardcore celly lovers ;) It's just something I've been thinking about lately as I try to learn more about me :D
it's almost Friday yay!!

i feel the same way! i have friends who i will go to visit and they spend the whole time updating twitter about what "we are doing" while mostly ignoring me! crazy. i've been doing this more lately...just going outside, leaving the computer and tv and phone and reading and it's lovely.
That is such a great idea! I don't personally feel too connected since I just got a phone that had internet and texting, I've never ever had myspace or facebook or twitter (I'm so behind!) but I think it's a great idea.
You should start a small movement-pick a week and let all of your followers to join you and leave the computers or whatever off and go create or meet up with friends. Then everyone can come back all refreshed and showing off their new idea and wares and art.
Hell- I might just do this myself! hehe.
Either way great idea.
I am so feeling you on this. For most of December I went without internet (not by my own doing.. but hey, it was still unavailable!) & it was kind of a relief to not feel tethered to it. I def recommend this experiment!
I know exactly what you mean and I feel the same way! Before I used to always be on my phone but that was before I was living with my boyfriend. Now that I live with him I really have no use for it and I barely ever use it...I may use it like once throughout the day and that's even rare.

The cell phone I can live witout, honestly hardly anyone ever calls me on it...I have to make a concerted effort to remember to take it with me. TV I don't watch much of that either...I have 2 nights a week, with my 'must see' shows. Now the computer on the other hand...THAT would be hard for me to give up...although I probably could if I planned it right! LOL Hmmmm will have to ponder this challenge!!!
that's very interesting...i feel like i would be lost without my cell phone. it's a comfort thing. you're awesome :)
Dude. When my boyfriend and I go out, he is always on his damn phone!! It drives me insane! I'm like, hello, you haven't seen me all day.
I need to try to go without tv. I might have to work up to it tho.
Mel- LOVE IT. I know Thomas is like "hallelujah". I am CONSTANTLY "at work" even if at home and the cell is probably his arch-nemesis. As a small business owner, it's kind of unavoidable, but we nixed the phone while we were on vacation in October and it was INCREDIBLE! I think it preemptively saved our relationship!
