This is a documentary YOU need to see!

WARNING: This post is going to be a little long! I've included a "jump" so be sure to click "READ MORE HERE" for the full post!

This film focuses on a group of  artists that got together and started a huge movement in the the art world during 1990's and beyond. They drew a great amount of  influence from punk lifestyle & music, skateboarding, and street art (esp. graffiti). These artists are beyond innovative, influential, and SO talented. Many of them have changed the way people view street art and art in general. All of them seem to have so many different areas of expertise and I LOVE that because sometimes I feel like I am all over the place (blythe customizing, illustrating, painting, crafting, miniatures, etc.). They make me feel OK about it, lol. 

I've listed all of the beautiful "losers" below...if you have time, google some of them and check out their work. As you search, you'll probably realize that you've already seen a lot of the graphic art and ads that some of them have done. I have heard of quite of few of these artists before I saw the film, but seeing it all put together  is quite an experience. The film makes you realize just how powerful a small group of creative, indie-minded people can be. 

Aaron Rose - film director, independent art curator, writer + more. He's the guy who opened the gallery (Alleged) and featured a lot of these artists work. He's done a lot in the art world and is still doing a lot but it's too much for me to type so look him up!

Thomas Campbell - painter, sculpter, photographer, and filmmaker


Ed Templeton - ex pro skater, artist, photographer

Vintage Illustrations!

I WANT this amazing tray from Kitsch Café!! We had workbooks in Kindergarten with this style of illustration and I LOVE it. I remember the illustrations so vividly! I really wish I could find some of those workbooks and I really wish I could buy this tray (trying to do better on spending, boo!) Oh well, at least I can admire, right?

I LOOOOOOVE the illustrations in this book. Any time anyone asks me my favorite book, it's always this one :) I used to read it all the time when I was a child and I am going to get a copy of it soon so I can read it over and over lol. I'm not sure what happened to my copy but I wish I could find it! I heart Maurice Sendak :)

These prints by Pie For Blackbirds are not technically vintage, but don't they give you that whimsical vintage feel? Leslie Dallion has been a MAJOR inspiration for me over the past few years. (She's the reason I got into making miniature food!) Even though she no longer makes/sells miniature food, I love what she's doing with her illustrations!

I've got to get my hands on these because Lili Chin ROCKS HARD. This is the second time I've featured her because I just can't get enough of her style! It's so cute ;)

Kid Cudi Covers Complex Magazine!

I love, love, love these illustrations and how they work Kid Cudi ino the madness. They're so dope! It's completely Cudi's style and I love that. This is the August/September “Style & Design” issue of Complex (which also features another cover with Keri Hilson.) The illustrator is Augor.

Nice, nice work. I envy his imagination lol!

Kid Cudi - New Music - More Music Videos

Speaking of Cudi, here's his latest video. It features Kanye West, Common, & Lady Gaga. WARNING:The lyrics are sexually suggestive so if you're offended by that kind of thing, put it on mute and just watch the video. (The lyrics aren't horribly sexual IMO, but if you click and it's too much for you, don't blame me, k?) It's a wonderfully shot video and I love the artistic feel to it. I love videos that are actually thought about and offer the viewer something other than the same old shat (yes shat). Kudos Cudi!

OMG how cute is this stationery!? It's part of the 2009-2010 collection and I think it's beyond adorable. I love the color scheme and the feeling it evokes. It makes me happy and giddy like a little girl! Charuca is one of my favorite character illustrators and my #2 biggest inspiration. (Michelle Romo is #1 of course ;)

Currently Lusting After: Paper Glitter

Paper Glitter is another recent find for me and I love it! The characters are so cute and I love the simplicity of the designs. The greatest part is that everything is printable, so you can print whatever you buy as many times as you like. Your PDF files are sent directly to your email address which is great for the environment. It it saves on packaging waste and makes the energy and emissions from the shipping process obsolete. Another thing to keep in mind is that nothing in the shop is more than $5.00 and that's just fabulous for the pocketbook, right?

Paper glitter offers stationery, stickers, modern paper dolls, and other paper crafts. An interesting thing about the shop owner is this, "I have designed toys for the mass market for lines such as My Little Pony, Smurfs, Littlest Pet Shop, Puppy In My Pocket, and many more. I have 10 years experience in the toy design field."
