Remember to SMILE today!

I have been STRESSED to the max (remember when EVERYTHING was to the max? ha!) and I just have to keep telling myself to smile! I am determined to manage my stress in a positive way instead of letting it bring me down. I hope you'll do the same if you're feeling stressed. Listen to this song...or any song that makes you super happy and let's get away from it all...even if it's only for a few minutes ;)

I was lucky enough to see her perform this song LIVE in concert and OMG it was amazing! They cut out all of the lights and had a spotlight on her and the dude playing guitar...no frills and it left me speechless! LOVE LOVE LOVE Janelle Monae foreva-eva!

Now smile REALLY big and laugh a little too. ;)

My New Favorite Song

Something to get you going on a Monday morning! ♥

This is Trainwreck  by Lisa D'Amato (of America's Next Top Model & Celebrity Rehab 3 fame). The vibe of this song reminds me a lot of MIA. Love it!

Happy Monday everyone! I feel really positive right now and I'd love to get lots of things done with the house this week. I hope you have a positive & productive day full of at least one adventure or sweet moment :D

WIWIWT & Other Sickly Wiggy Fat Crap

wiwiwt:11.5.09
1. collin hoodie 2. yellow/turquoise fused glass earrings 3. full tilt burn out thermal 4. OK tee 5. tiny tea cup necklace 6. wet hot american socks 7. starbuck's caramel frappacino 8. slipper booties 9. the weekend jeans
10. pictorial webster's dictionary

Hey yall...I'm still under the weather so that's why there's been a lack of posting and the halloween blog theme is still here. I'm hoping to feel much better this weekend so I can catch up on things. I have a wedding to attend though so I don't know how much I'll actually get done o_o SIGH.

Being sick sucks but one good thing is that the super sweet freckled cutie (and I mention her freckles because I LOVE freckles, lol) Lisa Kate of Sparkle is My Crack did another amazing make-up look inspired by my miniature strawberry cake, YAY! She is so talented and I love that she can be inspired by my minis. It means so much to me and inspires me to keep at it :) Somedays I tend to want to give up on my crafting/business totally...I just get frustrated and put too much pressure on myself and usually when I'm just about to say "F IT ALL" special little birdies like Lisa Kate make me realize that I've been blessed with a gift and if I can inspire others then THAT'S really the point of it all. So head on over to her blog and see what she came up with this time!

Hmm what else...oh I ordered two wiggies haha. Wiggggggggy! (I just like saying wiggy sorry ;)) I am SICK of my hair right now!!! Having super curly THICK hair can be hard to deal with when you have so much to do. I usually end up wearing a hat and ponytail every day and I've been neglecting my hair way too much. It's dry as a bone right now and I'm in need of a deep conditioning and trim badly. What's even worse is I have all these expensive ass hair styling products from Aveda just collecting dust. I decided that I am going to try wearing wigs so that I can have a quick and easy style when I'm going out.
I don't want to get it permanently straightened so I figure wigs are the best (and fun) option for me right now. They should be here soonish and I will torture you with wigs pics hee hee. I hope they're cute! Is it wrong that I want to put one on Bebe's head and take pictures??

I've also started my healthier eating regimen today. I hope to add exercise in the mix soon too. I like WATP and I've got a few dvds. In a perfect world, I would get up @ 5:30 am and exercise to start my day off right, but I'm not there yet. I drag myself out of bed 15 minutes before I have to be at work SIGH. But things need to change. I'm ashamed to say I've eaten myself up to about 50+ lbs over my ideal weight. I just like to eat A LOT. Food is my friend and I abuse it badly..eating way past full too much. It's those damn french fries lol...but I just can't take it anymore!! I hate not being able to wear cute stuff without my gut or rolls sticking and looking "stuffed" in fitted shirts. I hate feeling winded doing simple things. I hate thinking about what this excess weight is doing to my organs. :( I don't want to be super skinny, just healthy and in shape. So, I'll be using my blog to help keep myself accountable! If anyone out there is on a journey to weight loss, chime in we can support each other ;)

Today's Menu:

breakfast:
1 1/2 cup organic whole wheat squares cereal
w/ 1 cup vanilla soymilk
1/2 cup of mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, & strawberries)
2 fish oil capsules & multivitamin
h2o

snack:
a handful of almonds
1/2 cup organic yogurt
1 cup green tea infused w/ pomegranate (sweetened w/ stevia)

lunch:
*chicken sandwich
-2 pieces of whole wheat bread
-sliced chicken
-tomato slices
-1 slice of cheddar
-veggie hummus spread (instead of mayo and it's WAY better!)
*side "salad" -- this is SO good!!
-1/2 bell pepper
-cucumber slices
-tsp blue cheese crumbles
-tbsp ev olive oil,  lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste
cranberry pomegranate juice
h20

snack:
1 colby jack cheese stick
fruit & nut bar
h2o

dinner:
baked chicken or fish (cooked in ev olive oil)
steamed veggies
organic veggie juice

This is how I used to eat all the time and along with exercise, I stayed fit...and I felt so much better! I will try to eat about every 3-4 hours (keeps me alert and steady throughout the day) and stop eating 2-3 hours before bed. Wish me luck! I probably won't be posting again until Monday so have a great rest of the week and weekend! toodles ;)

Mad Mondays: Let's Play Dress Up!

This week I tried my hand at styling Betty Draper! (played by January Jones)

Mad Mondays: Let's Play Dress Up

If you don't watch Mad Men, Betty is married to the shows main character, Don Draper. She is a former model, now stay at home mother of 3 who has everything she could ever want except a truly happy marriage and a career of her own. She seems tortured by her picture perfect world. We see small bursts of Betty standing up for herself throughout the first two season but this season, she has really started to do things her way after learning of Don's sordid affairs and his mysterious past. I don't know what's going to happen with Betty's character but one thing is for sure though, she ALWAYS looks great and I love her style!

You can watch Mad Men on Sundays @ 9 PM CST -- If you watched the show last night, leave me a comment and let me know what you thought!

What -I Wish- I Wore Today...

wiwiwt2

Since I have to wear the same uniform every day, it's made me really lazy and unmotivated when it comes to fashion. So I'm hoping that if I make these style boards regularly it will inspire me to go shopping and get my wardrobe looking a bit better. It's so easy to get stuck in the cycle of wearing the same stuff all the time and never dressing up or looking cute if you don't have to. I want to get back to looking cute just because it makes me feel good :)

If you're in a style rut, try working on one of these boards. They're really fun to make and I've found it helps me focus on what my personal style is (something I've had trouble with in the past.) I make mine in Photoshop but there's a great site called Polyvore that can help you if you've never made one before. If you make one be sure to send me a link!

Happy Thursday...it's almost Friday WOO HOO!! ♥

Mad Mondays: Joan PerformsC'est Magnifique

LAMC's Mondays are now being devoted to AMC's hit show, Mad Men! It's one of my favorite television shows at the moment because of the great writing/acting and the spectacular 60's styling! For me, watching Mad Men is like watching art. Maybe I'll start doing a little recap every Monday and post some clips from the episode. We'll see!

On to the video...

Season 3: Episode 3 -- Joan entertains Greg's colleagues with her hidden talents. Ooh la la!

This scene is my favorite moment of the season so far. It really made me genuinely laugh :) It's so cute and whimsical. I love Joan and her house it to die for!  Lately Joan has been my favorite character (but Peggy is growing on me...when she says "I'm really high" After Kinsey and that dealer guy sing I cracked up!). I mean of course I love to hate to love Don Draper, but those two ladies are always scene stealers. You can watch Mad Men on AMC - Sunday's @ 9 CST.

Fashion Inspiration: Celebrity Style Dressed Down

Right now I'm kind of at a stand still with my own personal style. T-shirt and jeans mostly...but not even a cute tshirt and jeans...more like an old tshirt and the same jeans i've had for a while. I do have some cute clothing in my closet but I never wear it. One reason is because I've gained weight and I don't feel cute and two because I don't go anywhere that requires looking super cute. I've also gotten into the comfort over style rut, BOO! I need to find a way to be comfortable but still look current and stylish. I also need to accept that just because I'm not a size 0 doesn't mean I can't look good! (and for those who are wondering I wear a XL shirts, size 10 pants right now, but I feel most comfortable at a M or L shirt, and size 6 or 8 pants). So I suppose now I'm on the journey to finding my own personal style...if you're up for the trek, you better wear some comfortable shoes because this is going to be a long one. I'm so far away from the way I want to dress that it's not even funny! BUT, it's never too late to change, right?

Anyway, on to the celebs. I'm not a big celeb stalker when it comes to fashion, but these people have caught my eye on more than one occasion. I love their sense of personal style. They all look very confident in whatever they are wearing and that's attractive to me. I love all of these celebs when they are all glamorized and dressed up, but I love them even more when they are dressed down! I like how they can make simple pieces of clothing look fabulous by adding accessories. I think step one in my journey to finding my own personal style is to figure out how to accessorize the clothing I already have...(click to enlarge any of these pics)

Rihanna
I love, love, love her short hair cut! If I ever straighten my hair again, I will be getting a short cut like this! I hate her hoes in the first pic, but I love her shoes in the second picture. I am a big fan of the striped shirt in the second picture. In these pics, Rihanna has mastered how to look great but also be comfortable. She has a rocker chick edge that I adore.*taking notes* (image credit)

Teyana Taylor

What I like about Teyana is that she is a tomboy and proud of it. I have always been a tomboy at heart...I like loose fitting clothing with that slightly boyish edges sometimes. I do like to be girly at times too so I'm not sure how that's going to factor into my personal style issues. I love hoodies and so does Teyana! I love the ice cream hoodie in the first picture. What attracted me to the second picture is the layers, the color combination (red and grey/silver is hot!), and the way her clothing fits. I love layering clothing and I think it's done well here. I also like her shoes...and her hair is beautiful, curly, and BIG. Love it. (image credit)

SJP and Drew Barrymore
Both of these celebs made the list and I just happened to find a picture of them together. I HATE SJP's outfit in this picture but I love Drew's. I like the fact that the outfit was transformed by adding a scarf and the aviators. It just reinforces that accessories can really make or break and outfit. I love that they are both wearing flip flops. I am a flip flop freak! (image credit)

Sarah Jessica Parker
SJP is know for her award show style, but I like her casual attire as well. I LOVE that she paired one of the plainest outfits ever with some killer shoes and a matching bracelet. That's definitely something I would do. I hate the big ass pink tote bag, but I love everything else. I think SJP's street style should get more credit than it does. (image credit)

Drew Barrymore
I think this is my favorite outfit of the bunch. It's got a rocker edge to it and I love a good rocker chick :) It's definitely tomboyish until you get to the boots. I love the lace up boots although I'm not sure if I'd wear them. I love the scarf and the leather jacket. I really love the pops of color you get from the shirt and sunglasses. Well done Drew! (image credit)

I love this one too! Drew really shares a love for scarves like I do. This skinny scarf with the long fringe is divine!! I used to have one like this but I have no clue where it is now :( I like how she wears a lot of grey and black but mixes pops of color in the outfits. This is another thing I like to do. She looks really comfortable but super cute too. I love the slighly hipster slightly rocker look going on. (image credit)

Here Drew is a bit more fancied up but still casual. I love the all black ensemble. I love leggings as pants but I think my hips are too wide for it. If I wear leggins I will balance it out with a jean skirt or something. I love the bangles she's wearing but I wish that they were a solid color instead of clear. Bright yellow or teal bangles would have been the shit! (image credit)

So, what do most of these photos have in common?

layers
pops of bright color
scarves
big handbags
big sunglasses
relaxed fit jeans
grey and black
rocker chick edge
subtle or neutral make-up

Oh Yes. I like all of these things :) I think I am going to start doing WIWT (what i wore today) posts so that I can share my personal style evolution with yall. It's going to be um interesting to say the least haha!
