It's on my 28 before 29 list to try to make 5 new friends and I just don't exactly know how to go about it. I know A LOT of people but I have very few that I call true friends. It bums me out too. So I'm trying to figure out the best way to meet new people and become friends without looking crazy. (i.e that person who you just met that latches on to you and it's totally annoying lol) Right now I really only hang out with the boy and I have just started hanging out with my good friend (and her awesome family) again and they're great, don't get me wrong! But I have been feeling isolated and I want to branch out and meet new people and establish some good, healthy relationships. I have a few potential people I feel I could hang out with...they're good people but for whatever reason, I've remained "on the surface" with them...I'd like to get to know them better but I also don't want to be rejected. Putting yourself out there like that is hard and kind of scary. (or maybe I think too much??) It doesn't help that I'm a total spaz, lol. I get flustered around new people and end up saying crazy weird stuff that makes no sense. I'm just so awkward sometimes *cheesy grin* So dear readers, how do you go about making friends? What's the secret? ;)
i wish all of my bloggy friends lived closer!!

p.s. here's the song the title of this post references ;)
I totally understand how you feel! When you're "grown up" and no longer constantly in situations with new people it is so hard to connect on a more personal level. And whenever I make close friends they end up moving away...maybe I should take a hint?? In general, I always put myself out there--like waayy out there--I'll tell you pretty much anything you want to know. But I think that when you're honest and vulnerable it can put others at ease and know that they can be honest with you. Now I'm in this weird place where all my friends but me have babies so that makes it kinda hard to relate in some ways.
ps. My dad lived on a farm and had a pet possum (along w/many other weird pets). They named it "smiley" b/c it looked like it was smiling when it hissed at them. Then his sister fed it peanut butter and it's mouth got stuck shut and it died. True story.
I think if you started a new hobby you can make new friends quite easily, like find out if there is a knitting club or a book club in your area and join that, then you're there for the hobby, not to make friends, so you don't look/feel weird, but you tend to make friends naturally.
Everyone feels like you do. Well, I think most normal people do anyways.
Just remember... You are you. People can take it or leave it. It won't change how amazingly awesome you are. And if people know what's best for them they will "latch on" and not let go.
Once you make those good friendships... it won't matter if you rock the boat. Because you're friends will be there right alongside you. :)
I'm in the same boat, I have a really hard time making new "girl" friends. I'm always super awkward and don't ever know what to say at first. My hubby on the other hand can make friends with anyone, so that's kinda how I meet new people. :) Except in the blog world, I wish some of my fellow bloggers lived closer also. I would love to have lunch and dinner dates :P
I was about to post "oh I totally know what you mean, gets harder as we get older, blah blah blah" and then I saw that everyone else beat me too it. Ok, so LET'S DO IT. We'll have a party. Everyone who wants to make friends should bring at least one other person they know who wants to make friends but make a pledge to MINGLE. It can be like speed dating, lol. We can use the bakery or I don't mind doing it at my house. Let's DO this thing! :) (my personal email is katgordon(at)bellsouth.net Email me if you're in!)

you should throw a picnic or have a cookout!
Whoever brings the best desert is the one you try to be buds with, especially if it is home baked!
